Can you make a difference at HMP Addiewell?

HMP Addiewell in West Lothian is the newest prison being built in Scotland; one which will make a real difference in creating a Safer Scotland.

Managed by Kalyx in a contractual relationship with the Scottish Prison Service, HMP Addiewell can house 796 male prisoners and will employ over 350 people who will share a set of values, the most important of these being a passion for the development of people, regardless of whether they are staff or prisoners.

Opening in December 2008, HMP Addiewell will be a learning prison clearly focused on learning, achieving relevant skills training and employability. The prison will work with all areas of the wider community to ensure prisoners have the best possible chance of leading positive lives following release.

New recruits will come from a diverse range of backgrounds and will have a wide variety of skills and experience. They will include people who already have prison or custodial experience, but we are also looking for people with no previous experience who know how to communicate and get the best out of people, whilst having a genuine passion for helping to create a safer Scotland through the rehabilitation of prisoners.

Through our focus on learning and personal development, we want people who join us to learn, have other interests outside work and use their skills and interests to help develop others. For example, if you can speak more than one language you could share this knowledge with other staff and prisoners.
