HMP Peterborough
HMP Peterborough is a local category B prison which opened in 2005 and is the country’s only dual purpose-built prison for men and women. The genders are separated and never mix. The prison also has a 12 place Mother and Baby Unit.
The prison accepts adult male prisoners from Cambridgeshire and Nottinghamshire, and females from the same catchment area plus Warwickshire.
The capacity of the prison is 1,020 (624 male, 396 female).

Social visits:
Monday only – start 13.45 and end at 16.45
Tuesday to Friday – start 13.45 and end at 19.30

Additional information: There are no visits on Christmas Day. All domestic visitors must report to the visitors centre before entering the prison. A children's play area is available. The visitors centre opens half an hour prior to the start of visits. There is wheelchair access and a no smoking policy is in force.
Standard regime prisoners can have one hour's visit per day if
unconvicted and a two hour visit once per week if convicted.
Unconvicted prisoners on the enhanced regime can have an additional
two hour visit once per week by application. Convicted prisoners on
the enhanced regime can have two three hour visits per week.
The visitors centre is run by the Friends of Peterborough
Prisoner.

By car: Peterborough prison is situated in the City of Peterborough, approx half a mile from the city centre. From central Peterborough, take the A15 towards Sleaford, passing Peterborough railway station on the left. At the second roundabout, turn left towards Westwood along Westfield Road. At first roundabout, turn right along Gresley Way towards Westwood. At second roundabout, turn right, signposted Driving Test Centres and Goods Vehicle Testing Centre. At T-junction, turn left along Saville Road. Follow signs to HMP Peterborough on the right. The prison has a car park for visitors use.
By Bus: Monday to Saturday - Buses run every ten minutes from the City Centre Bus Station (bay Q2). The nearest bus stop to the prison is on Westfield Road – opposite the Shell petrol station. Travel time from the City Centre to Westfield Road is approximately ten minutes. It is then approx a 15 minute walk to the prison entrance. Buses also run on a Sunday from bay Q2 at half hourly intervals between 10.15 am and 5.15 pm. Thereafter the buses run every hour at a quarter past the hour. By Train: There is a main line station in Peterborough City Centre. Taxis are available immediately outside the station and the prison is a 10 minute ride away.
