The Future
Our latest prison is due to open in December 2008. HMP Addiewell is a maximum security prison in West Lothian, Scotland which will hold up to 796 male prisoners. Construction is almost complete and the prison is well on target to take its first prisoners by the end of the year.
Audrey Park was appointed as Director to HMP Addiewell from the Scottish Prison Service last September. Audrey was previously Governor in charge of HMP Glenochil, near Stirling, having also governed Greenock, Perth and Shotts prisons. She also has a developing international reputation, having worked in Canada on secondment with the Correctional Service there and, more recently, in a number of Eastern Europe jurisdictions advising on human rights issues in penal establishments.
She said: “We have a very clear focus on the new prison’s role: playing our part in achieving the Scottish Government and Scottish Prison Service’s goal of reducing re-offending.
“Addiewell will be a learning prison, a place where prisoners can address not only their offending behaviour and the circumstances which lead to their imprisonment, but also where they can be helped to improve their employability prospects, their wellbeing and community support networks, not least those involving their friends and families. Achieving those goals will be both challenging and stimulating for staff and prisoners alike."
Recruitment for the main body of staff is currently under way with the first Prisoner Custody Officer course starting in September. Visit our vacancies page to see what opportunities we have on offer.
